Odds and Ends From This Week

I thought I would bring you up to date on what I have been doing recently. I had written a blog recently about the problem we were having with our new dryer. It got to the point that we had to hit the dryer on top of the control panel to get it to work. I contacted the Sears repairman last week and he replaced the motherboard and the sensors which seemed to the source of the problem, but it still wouldn’t work. He took everything in the dryer apart and found the problem was one small wire which hadn’t been soldered properly at the factory. Things aren’t made the way they used to be. Hopefully that is the end of that story.

My son had been living in Bangkok, Thailand, teaching English, for five years until he returned to Canada last December for a visit. He stayed in Canada for almost a year but decided that he preferred living in Thailand so he returned there today. The flight from New York to Bangkok is only seventeen hours so he will arrive in Bangkok at about 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning our time. That seems like a long time to be sitting in a seat on a plane, but when you realize that it is on the other side of the world, it is amazing to get there in such a short period of time. We miss him already, but with the internet, we can see and hear him regularly.

For the last two weeks we have had such unseasonably warm weather for November that we forgot it was fall. Everyone was going outside wearing only light sweaters or jackets and enjoying it while it lasted. Today the mild weather ended with seasonable temperatures of 6 or 7C and everyone was wearing heavier clothes again. On Saturday, my husband dug up our canna lilies, dahlias and other bulbs from the garden to be dried on the garage floor before putting them away until spring. Every year he complains that we should leave them in the ground and let them freeze, but he never does. I am glad he does it because I don’t like digging in the ground this time of the year.

Today I started my fall house cleaning. I plan on tackling one or two rooms every day this week until everything is spic and span by the end of the week. I don’t do much cleaning during the summer when it is hot and there are better things to do. I only get interested in doing it during the spring and fall.

Have a nice day,
Anne
