I haven’t been writing anything on this blog for a few days because I have been ill since I had my tooth extracted last week. I don’t know if the tooth extraction caused the “stomach flu” or whether it was just a coincidence that it happened at the same time. Anyhow I am feeling better now.

My husband used to take 8 mm and Super 8 home movies regularly during the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s of his relatives and our family when our children were young. The problem with this type of film is that it deteriorates eventually unless it is put on VHS tape or DVD. I recently had the movies transferred to DVD so we watched them for the first time today. It was amazing to see scenes of Christmases, vacations, birthday parties and weddings which took place forty or fifity years ago. The colors have faded and there has been some deterioration in the images, but you can still tell who the people are. My son and daughter can see their great grandparents, grandparents, aunts and uncles who are now deceased. They can see themselves when they were babies and young children. We probably should have had them transferred years ago when the quality would have been better. We haven’t seen the movies in several years because our movie projector doesn’t work. Now that they are on DVD, there will be no further deterioration so these images can be passed on to future generations. We are going to make several copies of the DVD this week to give to members of our family.

I haven’t completed transcribing my grandfather’s soldiers diary this week because I was sick. There is so much in it that it will take a few weeks to complete.

This evening I plan on watching the finale of Dancing with the Stars. I think Mario Lopez is a better dancer than Emmitt Smith but I think Emmitt maybe more popular with the voting public. I enjoy watching both of them, so I can’t decide who should win. I will also watch the season premiere of Daybreak which has replaced Lost for the next 13 weeks on Wednesday nights. It sounds like a good evening of television entertainment.

Before I start watching television at 9:00 p.m. I must read Garth’s latest blog. I try to read his blog everyday in case I miss something important.
