I looks like the Americans did the right thing and gave the Republicans “a thumping” as President Bush stated. Bush also did the right thing and got rid of Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld because the loss of seats in yesterday’s election was mainly because of the war in Iraq. Rumsfeld had stated that the war in Iraq is too complex for most Americans to understand. The government should have explained it to them better instead of continuing to lie to them. They never should have started it in the first place, but now that they have, it will be difficult and will take time to get out. It took most Americans too long to realize that it was a mistake and that they were being lied to. This is such an expensive lesson for the Americans. The billions of dollars spent in Iraq could have been better used in so many other places such as rebuilding in New Orleans, helping homeless people, giving more aid to Africa, and most important of all, the environment and climate change.

The Americans may have to put more troops into Afghanistan and have a plan to take them out of Iraq. I don’t think the mission in Afghanistan will be successful. The Taliban will never go away and will continue persuading Afghans to fight with them. Citizens of Canada and the United States don’t want to see their troops killed in wars which will never be won.

Let’s hope they do the right thing for the next two years the Republicans are in power.
