BELL ALIANT FIBRE OP
Friday July 05th 2013, 10:14 am

We changed from Bell satellite television to Bell Fibre Op television on July 4, 2013, after having the satellite TV for almost 15 years. The reason we switched was mostly due to the increased internet speed with Fibre Op, and there was an extra benefit of saving a little money every month. Bell Fibre Op has three bundles for the TV, internet and home phone. The GOOD bundle has less TV channels and lower speed internet, the BETTER bundle has a higher internet speed, and the BEST bundle also has a higher internet, and includes the Movies package. We chose the BEST bundle.

All the channel numbers we were used to have changed. The channel listings information they gave us was alphabetical only, so I made a channel listing based on the types of channels which were included in our BEST package. This makes it easier for us to locate channels. All the HD channels also have non HD channels available for non HD televisions, but I did not include these numbers. HD channels start at channel 400.

I included only channels which are available in the Halifax, Nova Scotia market. There are approximately 70 English HD channels included in our package and they are increasing regularly. The BEST package includes the Movies pack, but we also paid an extra $17.00 a month for the Superchannels pack. We received one HD PVR with our package, so we rented two additional HD PVRs.

There is no difference in the picture quality between the Bell satellite television and the Bell Fibre Op. However, we did lose our satellite signal with heavy rain and snow, which will not happen with the Fibre Op.

We bundled the television, internet and phone service with Bell, so we saved money. We will save about $100.00 a month for the first six months, then the savings will be about $30.00 a month. We also get much faster internet, which was the main reason we got the Fibre op. The only downside, so far, is the limited range for our wireless WiFi. We used to be able to use our tablets on our back deck, but no longer. However, my tablet runs much better in the house. We don’t have as many channels as we did with the Bell satellite, but we never watched most of them. We are satisfied with the selection in the BEST package, which contains all the channels we will watch.
