Sunday Morning
Sunday January 14th 2007, 10:42 am

It is a lazy Sunday morning and I have just finished reading the newspaper. We still haven’t received any snow in our area, but it is colder today than it has been lately, and snow is forecast for Tuesday. Whether we get it or not, is another thing. The first thing I do when I get up every morning is to look out my bedroom window to check the leaves of the rhododendron in our front yard. The tighter the leaves are curled up, the colder it is. This morning they were very curled at -8C but are becoming flatter as the morning goes on, at the current temperature of -2C. I don’t even need to check my thermometer for the morning temperatures during the winter.

Jack’s Back on 24
Thursday January 11th 2007, 11:59 am

Our entire household has been waiting for months for Season 6 of “24″ to start. For anyone who doesn’t know, it is probably the most thrilling show on television. The show stars Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer who works for the United States government in the Counter Terriorist Unit. We didn’t start watching it when the show started in season 1, but we are now up to date, by watching all the seasons we missed on DVD. If anyone wants to watch really entertaining TV, they should rent and watch each season in it’s entirety. It isn’t necessary to have seen the previous seasons to enjoy Season 6, because each season is entirely separate in characters and situations.

Will 2007 Be Our Warmest Winter on Record?
Monday January 08th 2007, 1:51 pm

What a strange winter we have had so far. It has been so mild recently that we went to our cottage yesterday and planted some spring tulip bulbs. There was no trace of any frost in the ground, but it was quite muddy. Everything in the countryside was like a nice fall day, with no ice or snow anywhere, and the grass is still green. There likely won’t be any change according to the forseeable weather forecasts. It wasn’t unusual to see temperatures in the mid teens celsius in parts of Nova Scotia in the past week. There was a picture in today’s newspaper of a man in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, who was wearing a T-shirt and shorts, and mowing his lawn. Golfers are still golfing around here, although the ground is wet.

Today’s the Day
Friday January 05th 2007, 10:24 am

Today’s the day. We took down our Christmas tree and decorations yesterday so I am ready to start my New Year resolution of eating more sensibly and hopefully, eventually lose some weight and get in better shape. In the past, when I went on a diet, I went gung ho into it. I weighed myself regularly and kept a record of my weight loss in a journal. I found I was obsessed with the losing of the weight, but that enthusiasm soon worn thin because I was restricting myself from eating certain foods. I soon “fell off the diet wagon” and back to my old way of eating. This is a common problem with most diets and why the experts say that diets don’t work. They work in the short term to lose some weight, but not in the long term to keep it off.

My New Year Resolution for 2007
Wednesday January 03rd 2007, 10:57 am

Well, it is January 3rd already, and I still haven’t made any New Year’s resolutions. I know the only one I really need to make is to lose some weight. I have been putting it off and decided to wait until I took down the Christmas decorations. They are still so pretty so I am not ready to take them down for a few more days.

Happy New Year!!!
