Our First Snow of the Season
Tuesday December 05th 2006, 12:11 pm

Yesterday we got our first snow of the season and boy it was a doozie. As usual, with the first snow of any amount, drivers are not prepared. Traffic hardly moved yesterday afternoon with commuters taking 3 to 4 hours to drive a distance which normally takes 30 minutes. Halifax was supposed to get rain but due to an unexpected cold front, it turned to snow by mid afternoon. We received 20 cm of the white stuff which was heavy, wet, hard to shovel and hard to drive over but perfect for making a snowman, snowfort or snowballs. I took some pictures of our first snowfall which I have put on this blog.

Helen Keller said that “smell is a potent wizard that transports us across thousand of miles and all the years we have lived.” Our sense of smell and taste are amazing. These senses are connected because our sense of smell accounts for 80% of our perception of flavour and taste.

Don’t Be a Butt-Head, Stop Smoking
Friday December 01st 2006, 12:29 pm

Starting today, smoking in Nova Scotia has been banned from every public place and it’s about time. There has been no smoking in restaurants for a few years but there were still public places which allowed smoking. Nova Scotia now has the toughest tobacco ban in Canada. There is no smoking allowed in any public place such as bars, restaurants, outdoor patios, indoor workplaces, offices, private clubs, legions and casinos. Most other provinces have some restrictions, but allow smoking in certain areas such as enclosed smoking rooms or areas where children aren’t allowed.
