I have to get a tooth extracted
Monday November 06th 2006, 11:19 am

I have an appointment this afternoon with my dentist to get a molar extracted. I was a child the last time I had a tooth extracted. My wisdom teeth never came in because the human jaw has been shrinking over the years, and some people don’t get them because there is no space in their mouth. I was lucky in that regard because many of these teeth are impacted and must be extracted.

Craft shows
Saturday November 04th 2006, 11:13 am

Today I am off to a Christmas craft show. I haven’t been to one in several years so it will be interesting to see what type of crafts are in fashion now. Years ago when I used to go every year, country crafts were all the rage and I bought a lot of it because I liked it. After a few years, Victorian crafts were very popular but I didn’t buy as much because I didn’t like it as much. The one thing I do remember is that the shows were very crowded, there were too many baby strollers, and it was too warm because you are wearing a jacket because it is cold outside. These are the reasons I haven’t gone to one in years. This year I must remember to leave my jacket in the car.

Weather in Nova Scotia and Climate Change
Friday November 03rd 2006, 11:53 am

Have you ever noticed how the weather effects your mood. Yesterday was a foggy and dull day here in Nova Scotia and I wrote a rather pessimistic view of the Christmas season. Today it is a nice sunny day and as I re-read yesterday’s blog, I don’t feel the same way. We live in a very consumer driven society. We can buy just about anything our heart desires, within reason, and we don’t even need a reason to go shopping. Our biggest holiday and special occasion is Christmas, so it isn’t unreasonable that people will spend a lot of money shopping and many will enjoy it. Most people have wonderful memories of Christmas and it is a great time of year. Enough said.

53 Shopping Days Until Christmas
Thursday November 02nd 2006, 12:06 pm

It is a little less than two months before Christmas Day. The stores are filled with Christmas merchandise and this started weeks ago. Our daily newspapers are already filled with flyers from businesses trying to sell as much as they can to consumers before the big day. We have 53 shopping days left, multiplied by 8 to 10 flyers a day, and we must either read or discard over 500 advertising flyers before Christmas. That is a lot of trees and garbage pick ups to get rid of it. It feels like Christmas is getting bigger every year because merchants are all after your dollar because they make most of their sales during the Christmas season. I know that spending creates jobs and is good for the economy but I think North Americans go overboard.

History repeating itself

I found this quote on the internet today. It reminds me of what is going on today in the United States.

“Naturally, the common people don’t want war, but they can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. Tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and endangering the country. It works the same in every country.” - Herman Goering - Hitler’s Reichsmarschall at the Nuremberg Trials.
